Background

Easly, the revolutionary approach to home self-testing, was born out of the need to address the gap between what people expect from healthcare and what the current system can offer. The team at Easly noticed that the current healthcare system is very busy with caring for the sick and there is relatively little room for preventive health questions. With this in mind, they have developed a platform where people can monitor their health in a way that is easy to understand.

Client

Biotechnology has exploded across the industry, making its imprint on medication development and production since the 1990’s. Biotech and pharmaceutical companies both produce medicines, but medicines made by biotechnology companies are derived from living organisms, while those made by pharmaceutical companies generally have a chemical basis.

Biotechnological methods have become an important tool in pharmaceutical drug research and development. Today approximately 15% of drug revenues are derived from biopharmaceuticals.

Challenges

The client needed to replace their outmoded practice of e-mail information transfers and network sharing of enormous files stored in multiple independent systems. They needed a solution to manage data-intensive projects and provide information visibility of varying accessibility to appropriate stakeholders at all stages of development.

The project managers were accessing data files of multiple Gigabytes, sometimes Terabytes, including experiments, photo reports, logs from bioreactors and other information, and the time to upload files could even be overnight.

Symphony Solutions gets involved

Symphony Solutions was approached in 2019 with a request to create a software product to manage the organization, storage, access, and flow of information among various stakeholders.

The Managed Product Development engagement model was selected, which gave the entire software design and development to Symphony Solutions.

Problems

There were no specifications or documented requirements for this project. The challenges were to analyze the situation, design a process for the project, including:

1.Organizing information and making it easily accessible

2.Transferring huge files via a web-based solution, while accommodating needs of pharmaceutical representatives

3.Designing the best prototype for the product

Solution

Symphony Solutions provided end-to-end medical development from the initial stages of requirements right on through to Implementation and post-production support and Maintenance. This included the following:

1.Interviewed users to understand needs of all participants as part of the Service Design approach

2.Established functional and non-functional requirements

3.Determined phased implementation for review with the client at each stage

4.Designed a Cloud Native solution within our Cloud Native Development Services to meet performance, reliability, and security requirements

5.Built high-fidelity interactive prototype with UI/UX

6.Symphony Solutions continues to provide support and maintenance as a part of our Cloud Managed Services.

Result

This new software continues to make sizeable contributions to ease and speed of information flow among stakeholders.

The client continues its support of unique technology and world-class scientists to bring impact to all therapeutic areas more quickly and with greater success.

This means that the production of medicines can continue more quickly without the cumbersome burden of outmoded data storage, transmission, and updates.
