Background A strong Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is crucial for businesses aiming to streamline operations and boost efficiency. At Symphony Solutions, a tech-focused company, we recognized this and took steps to enhance our ERP system. We aimed to develop a user-friendly interface that works smoothly on mobile and tablet devices. This upgrade introduced key features, including streamlined workflow activities, a handy birthday list, and a reporting hours screen highlighting recent projects, all within a sleek, modern interface. Client Symphony Solutions is a Cloud and AI-driven IT company headquartered in the Netherlands. The company specializes in delivering custom software solutions to iGaming, Healthcare, and Airlines industries. Since its inception in 2008, Symphony Solutions has been committed to offering various services, including full cycle software development, cloud engineering, data and analytics, AI services, and digital marketing orchestration. Known for its dedication to quality and innovation, the company serves over 35 international clients, mainly in Western Europe and North America. This excellence also extends to its internal operations, notably in the successful enhancement of its ERP system. Challenges The main challenge in upgrading our ERP system at Symphony Solutions was modernizing an existing, integral system without disrupting ongoing operations. Initially, we considered creating standalone applications for the App Store and Android Market, but this proved impractical due to the need for additional resources and a dedicated support team. Balancing cross-platform application design, among other factors while ensuring the new system was user-friendly, adaptable to various devices, and technically sound, required strategic planning, adaptability, and innovative problem-solving. Solution In tackling the ERP upgrade at Symphony Solutions, our main focus was on making the system more user-friendly, especially for mobile and tablet users. We started out with the idea of creating a standalone app for the App Store and Android Market, but it quickly became clear that this wasn’t the right approach. So, we shifted gears and decided to go for an adaptive interface, kind of like what you’d see on a website. This move made a lot of sense for us in terms of cost and stability. For the tech side of things, we picked React JavaScript as our front-end framework. It’s popular for a reason: it’s great at making interfaces that are not just responsive, but also easy to use. And to tie everything together, we used REST API for a smooth link between the front-end and back-end. The best part? We pulled this off with a pretty lean team. This project wasn’t just about upgrading our ERP system; it was a real display of our ability to innovate and be resourceful. The end result was an ERP system that was not just better for us internally but also set a new bar for how these systems can work in our industry. Result The upgrade has been a success, particularly from the perspectives of our two main user personas: the Symphony team and People Partners. From the team’s standpoint, the new ERP system has been a game-changer. The user-friendly interface, now optimized for mobile and tablet use, has led to a remarkable 99% user satisfaction rate. This improvement in accessibility and ease of use has significantly enhanced our employees’ experience, especially for those needing to access the system remotely or on the move. For our People Partners, the system’s overhaul has doubled their performance and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, emphasizing how the system’s alignment with the latest technology trends has greatly facilitated their work. The success of this project, achieved by a small team within a tight timeline, has not only improved our internal operations but also demonstrated our ability to adapt and innovate in a fast-paced tech environment. Overall, the renewal and redesign of the ERP system at Symphony Solutions brought several key enhancements: An adaptive interface for various devices. Enhanced mobile and tablet compatibility. Features like a birthday list, quick workflow activities, and a new reporting hours screen. Preservation of the old design, with users able to switch seamlessly between the old and new interfaces. The new ERP system can be used as a browser link on mobile and tablet devices for an app-like experience. Boost Efficiency with our App Development Expertise. DISCOVER MORE
