Optimizing a mobile app becomes essential when confronted with stability concerns and user experience shortcomings to ensure peak performance and sustained user satisfaction. Elevated crash rates not only compromise the app’s reliability but also diminish user trust and engagement – highlighting the critical need for continuous improvement and robust quality assurance practices. 

Challenges

As part of our ongoing collaboration with the client, we were tasked with revitalizing a suite of four legacy mobile applications – two for Android and two for iOS. The primary challenges centered around: 

  • A high frequency of crashes that severely impacted app performance 
  • The need to elevate the user experience (UX) to align with modern usability standards 

These applications played a vital role in the client’s user engagement strategy, yet their effectiveness was hindered by persistent stability issues and dated interface designs.

Solution

In parallel with the web portal modernization project, we undertook the optimization of four legacy mobile applications. Our cross-functional team – comprising two Android developers, two iOS developers, a QA specialist, a Business Analyst, and a Scrum Master – collaborated closely to restore and elevate the mobile experience. 

Our strategy focused on several core areas of improvement: 

  • Crash Resolution: 
    Addressing frequent crashes was our top priority. By systematically identifying and resolving these issues, we significantly improved the stability and reliability of all four applications. 
  • UX/UI Enhancements: 
    Recognizing the critical role of user experience, we redesigned the user interfaces to be more intuitive, visually appealing, and aligned with modern usability standards. These improvements contributed to longer session times and higher user satisfaction. 
  • Force Update Implementation: 
    To ensure users always benefited from the latest improvements and critical updates, we introduced a forced update mechanism. This ensured that all users operated on the most recent, secure, and feature-rich version of each app. 
  • Security Updates: 
    We proactively addressed known vulnerabilities and implemented key security updates, reinforcing the apps against potential threats and ensuring compliance with best practices. 
  • Feature Development: 
    Over the course of a year, we delivered a continuous stream of new features, maintaining product relevance and improving the overall user experience in alignment with evolving business goals. 
  • Quality Assurance: 
    A dedicated QA engineer was brought in to rigorously test all user flows. Their meticulous approach ensured a seamless, high-quality experience across all platforms, catching issues early and supporting long-term app health.

Results 

The mobile app optimizations we implemented led to a sevenfold reduction in crashes, significantly enhancing user satisfaction. This was further corroborated by user feedback, with consistent 4–5-star ratings, demonstrating the positive impact of the stability improvements and refined user experience. These enhancements also contributed to an uplift in the client’s brand reputation and fostered stronger user loyalty. 

In just one week, huge number of users updated their apps, underscoring the success of updates. Additionally, the absence of negative feedback for more than eight months following the release serves as a strong testament to the lasting effectiveness of our improvements.
